"Kid Zero"(by Mike Walton)

Gussett Henry Owen grows up learning that there is something special about him -- something which will make him either famous or wanted. What would Jesus do?

The story is age-old: a child is born in a small town in the middle of nowhere, to a virgin mother. He grows up learning that there is something special about him -- something which will make him either "a great man" in his father's eyes; or a freak show attraction. He and his mother travel from town to town, and the child receives some precaution and some advice from an old man fighting his own devils. The young man learns love, hate, pity, compassion, fear, pride, and along the way learns that fame is a very fleeting thing. Will he and his mother survive? Can he trust the few people around him as he grows up? Is he's truly blessed or is it really "smoke and mirrors"?
